Apply to OMLA Fellowship Program for Young African Innovators


Are you a young African leader who wants to be part of a movement that will guide Africa to a better future by 2030? Do you have a passion for social change and a track record of leading a social impact project in your community? If yes, then you might be interested in applying for the OMLA Fellowship Program.

The OMLA Fellowship Program is an initiative of One Million Leaders Africa (OMLA), a non-profit organization that aims to train and empower one million young African leaders in leadership, sustainability, social innovation and social entrepreneurship by 20301.

The OMLA Fellowship Program is a one-year program that offers selected fellows the following benefits:

  • A two-month online training in leadership, sustainability, social innovation and social entrepreneurship, facilitated by experts and mentors from OMLA and partner organizations.
  • OMLA Fellows will be selected for one year. Each OMLA fellow will receive a monthly fellowship stipend for $50 to cover costs of internet and other logistics incurred for training OMLA stars. In addition to intensive training and network building, OMLA will offer Fellows professional development support, including mentorship and a $500 for professional development support (given at the successful completion of the fellowship year).
  • Access to a network of OMLA fellows, alumni, partners and supporters across Africa and beyond.
  • Opportunities to lead OMLA training and projects in their regions, and to showcase their work at local, national and international platforms.
  • A certificate of completion and recognition as an OMLA Fellow.

To be eligible for the OMLA Fellowship Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be Aged below 40 years old.
  • Be a citizen of an African country and reside in Africa throughout the duration of the program.
  • Have led or co-led a social change project in their community, and be able to demonstrate its impact and sustainability.
  • Have a good command of English, as the training will be conducted in English.
  • Have access to a reliable internet connection and a device that can support video conferencing.
  • Be committed to completing the program and to contributing to the OMLA movement.

The application process for the OMLA Fellowship Program consists of three stages:

  • Stage 1: Online Application Form. Applicants must fill out an online application form that asks for their personal information, educational background, social impact project details, and motivation for joining the program. The deadline for submitting the online application form is January 20, 2024.
  • Stage 2: Online Assessment. Applicants who pass the initial screening will be invited to take an online assessment that tests their knowledge, skills and attitudes related to the program.
  • Stage 3: Online Interview. Applicants who pass the online assessment will be invited to an online interview with a panel of OMLA staff and partners.

The final selection of OMLA Fellows will be announced in May 2024, and the program will commence in June 2024.
