The ACOS (A Culture of Safety) Alliance, in collaboration with IREX, is proud to announce the East Africa Safety Training 2024, specifically designed for local and freelance journalists based in East Africa. This vital three-day course, in alignment with the ACOS Alliance Safety Principles, aims to equip journalists with the skills and knowledge necessary to navigate the risks and safety challenges they face.
Comprehensive Safety Training
Journalists often encounter significant hazards while reporting in volatile regions. The East Africa Safety Training 2024 addresses these concerns through a focused curriculum that includes:
Digital Security: Techniques to protect digital data and maintain cybersecurity.
Psychological Safety: Strategies to manage stress and maintain mental health while covering challenging stories.
First Aid: Practical first aid training provided by an experienced and qualified medic, ensuring journalists are prepared to handle medical emergencies in the field.

Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Dates: August 7-9, 2024
Language: The course will be conducted in English
Participants: 12 journalists will be selected
Coverage: Course fees, meals, and accommodation will be provided
Travel Grants: Limited travel grants are available for participants based outside of Kenya
Application Process
Journalists interested in participating must apply by July 5, 2024. The selection process will consider applicants’ professional backgrounds and the specific risks they face in their work.
